Sri Lanka Highlights in 7 Days
A tight, well-judged week: Sigiriya, Kandy, the tea train to Ella and two nights on the south coast. Designed for travellers with limited leave.

Most people arrive in Sri Lanka with ten days or more. If you have seven, you can still see the island properly — you just need a route that does not waste a single afternoon on backtracking. This is that route.
What we cut, and why
We drop Polonnaruwa and Yala. Polonnaruwa is wonderful but covers similar ground to Sigiriya and Dambulla for a first-time visitor, and Yala needs a full night nearby to be worth the drive. What stays is the strongest version of each experience: one great climb, one great temple, one great train ride, one great fort, and enough beach to remember it by.
A note on flights
If your flight lands after 6pm, tell us. We would rather start you with a night in Negombo, twenty minutes from the airport, than have you arrive in Sigiriya at 1am. It costs nothing extra and it changes the whole first day.

1 Arrival and transfer to Sigiriya
Met at Bandaranaike airport and driven north. Rest, swim, sleep — the real trip starts tomorrow.
Overnight: Sigiriya
2 Sigiriya and Dambulla
Early climb up the rock, breakfast afterwards, then the cave temples in the afternoon. An optional Minneriya elephant safari runs at 3pm.
Overnight: Sigiriya
3 To Kandy via Matale
A three-hour drive with a spice garden stop if you want one. Afternoon at the lake, evening at the Temple of the Tooth.
Overnight: Kandy
4 Kandy to the hill country
Peradeniya gardens in the morning, then up through Ramboda to Nuwara Eliya and a working tea factory.
Overnight: Nuwara Eliya
5 The train to Ella
The famous stretch, in reserved seats. Afternoon walk to Nine Arch Bridge.
Overnight: Ella
6 Little Adam's Peak, then the coast
A dawn walk before the long descent to the south coast. Afternoon on the beach.
Overnight: Unawatuna or Mirissa
7 Galle Fort and departure
Morning inside the fort walls, then the expressway to the airport.

Questions
About this tour
Is a week too rushed for Sri Lanka?
It is honest work rather than a holiday-shaped holiday — you move most days. It is very doable and thousands of people do it happily, but if you can find two extra days, take them and add a national park.
Can we add a safari to this week?
Yes. The easiest option is a half-day at Minneriya or Kaudulla on day two, which adds around USD 55 per person. Yala needs an extra night.
