Wildlife & Safari Explorer — 8 Days
Four parks in eight days: leopards at Yala, elephants at Udawalawe and Minneriya, and the quiet, leopard-rich scrub of Wilpattu. Built with…
6 days / 5 nights · Private tour
Cool air, colonial bungalows, waterfalls and the two best train journeys in Asia. For travellers who would rather walk through tea than lie on a beach.
Trip highlights
The Sri Lankan hill country was built by the British to grow tea, and it still looks it: neat rows of bushes across impossible gradients, tin-roofed factories, and towns with names like Great Western. It is also cool, green and quiet in a way the rest of the island is not.
The Kandy to Ella line is genuinely beautiful and genuinely uncomfortable. Reserved second-class seats are the sweet spot — first class is air-conditioned with sealed windows, which defeats the point. We book your seats well in advance and your guide drives the luggage ahead to meet you.
Horton Plains is the headline. But the best walks are the ones nobody photographs: the estate paths above Haputale, the old pilgrim track to Lipton’s Seat, and the tea-picker trails around Ella that lead to villages where nobody is selling anything. Tell your guide you want to walk and he will find them.
Day by day
This is a starting point. Every day can be swapped, slowed down or extended — just tell us what you would rather do.
Three hours up from the coast. Afternoon by the lake and the evening puja at the Temple of the Tooth.
Overnight: Kandy
Ramboda Falls, a tea factory and the long climb to 1,900 metres. It gets cold; the hotels have hot water bottles for a reason.
Overnight: Nuwara Eliya
Leave at 5am to beat the mist. The loop is nine kilometres over open moorland, past Baker's Falls and to the edge of the escarpment.
Overnight: Nuwara Eliya
Nanu Oya to Ella, roughly four hours, through the most photographed landscape in Sri Lanka.
Overnight: Ella
Little Adam's Peak at dawn, then across to Haputale in the afternoon for Lipton's Seat and the walk down through the estates.
Overnight: Ella or Haputale
Ravana Falls on the way out, then either the airport or a handover to a beach extension.

Questions
Nuwara Eliya can drop to 8–12°C at night in January and February, and Horton Plains is often close to freezing at dawn. Bring a fleece and long trousers — it surprises people who packed only for the tropics.
Yes, and it is one of the few tourist clichés that survives contact with reality. Book reserved seats — we do this weeks ahead — or you will be standing for four hours.
